Natrajar Mural

This one is one of my material exploration projects. The painting could be still seen in my grandparent’s house. Despite not being from an art background, these lovable grandparents where the ones who motivated me by giving a space and wholeheartedly mentioning “This is where we will put your work up, remember to use the chance to explore new things”. How many of us would be beguiled by an occasion like that where u get the space, money and love to push you higher with your hobbies?. Perhaps this “Explore new things” statement spoiled me a lot. The work did have a glitch, which presumably would have been avoided if I had enough experience with the materials.
Now enough with my memories, moving with just 3 posts so far there has been lot of suggestions from my friends Veena Harish and Mani Meghala about the quality of the pictures, lack of tutorials and many more. I do accept that. So I will be improving the quality of pictures when in tutorials and might I use the old images for a refreshing memory, kindly accept.

Revisiting on this Natrajar project, here is the available details from my old notes.
Size: 5’ * 3’5”
Materials Used:
6mm  water proof Plywood with cloth pinned and wooden reapers nailed.
Fevicol- 2 kg
Chalk powder-1kg
White cement -500gms
Wood Primer
Shilpakar
Tanjore Gold
Camel glass colours water based-Sunset orange, Golden Yellow, Cherry Red, Peacock Blue, Royal blue.

Points from my bewildered material exploration:
  • To attain a glossy effect glass colors where used for the leaves and flowers, which is anyways glossy after few coats of Varnish.
  • Camel Tanjore gold was used for the background, which is easily matched in Asian paints enamel shade cards.
  • Since I attempted painting the figure using glass colors for the figure and then used fabric paint to cover it up due to the unavailability of the former the work showed cracks after some years. This could have been avoided if the older colors have been scraped smoothly.

Mosaic design fish

For those who aren't very familiar with the freehand and other techniques in ceramic painting this  mosaic inspired fish design comes in with out a challenge. All we need majorly is a tile of your choice that is available.Choose any light color to make it more attractive and it leaves us with more imagination in the choice of colors. This art work could be framed, plastered onto a rough wall like a collage work and most importantly leaves us with a choice of fixing it anywhere without a necessity of safeguarding it much like a glass although this too is a object that could brittle. Materials: Ceramic Paint kit Brushes- Flat brush can be avoided at a beginner level. Palette Method: Draw the outlines using a pencil.Using a normal pencil is of great advantage as erasing is much easier without leaving any marks behind. Now the only task left behind is making small squares out of the brush. Playing with light and dark of a single colour gives a good depth to an
